Hay bastante debate en Estados Unidos sobre "el futuro de Wi-Max" debido a la cantidad de espectro que tiene licenciado una de las operadoras más grandes de ese país. De hecho un "analista" predijo que "el futuro de Wi-Max está en peligro porque 2,5/2,6Ghz está en manos de una empresa".... hay una opinión muy interesante de Frank Ohrtman
1. The WiMAX market for the next few years is fixed wireless; it's not like cellular where it all has to be the same frequency in all markets. The frequency can be anything that transmits data from base station to subscriber unit satisfactorily 2. Who said WiMAX was limited to 5.8 or 2.5 GHz? The WiMAX spec calls for products in the 2 - 60 GHz range. Once we get beyond cell phones and AM/FM radio, the demand for spectrum drops off precipitously 3. European telcos committed $115 billion for 3G spectrum in 2000-2001 and have yet to recoup their investment in an undeployed technology 4. Vendors are trying to guess demand and offer 2.5 GHz products. Having gear custom made for another licensed spectrum may not be that pricey. Your mileage may vary.
